Passports and Travel Documents

Important Notes:

  • Click here to check whether you are under the Embassy of Lebanon in Washington, D.C.'s jurisdiction or under our affiliated Consulates General in Detroit, Los Angeles and New York;
  • Anyone with an expired or soon to expire Lebanese navy blue or Biometric passport is encouraged to apply for a “new passport” . This process will take 3 months to complete, or 3-4 weeks if you choose the DHL expedited route for an additional service fee of $85  (more info about applying for a new passport and  DHL fasttrack payments can be found under the new passport section). Please note that delays are  expected due to the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • Renewal of passports or manual extensions are only granted for one time and on an emergency basis due to their restrictive nature. They can only be accepted if you are travelling to Lebanon within one year and you are unable to wait to obtain a new machine readable passport (Dark Blue) within 3 to 4 weeks, which is the fastest time it takes to process. (more info about manual renewals can be found under the passport renewal section);
  • Biometric passports (Burgundy) are not subject to manual extensions and they must be obtained from Lebanon for the first time. If you already carry the Biometric passport and it is expired or soon to expire, you would then be able to apply for an updated one through us (more info about biometric passport updates can be found under the new passport application section)
  • If you still possess the old burgundy Lebanese passport, you are required to apply for a new machine readable passport per the Lebanese Directorate General of GeneralSecurity.  The old red passports (handwritten) are no longer valid as of 24/11/2015. Only the machine readable and biometricpassports can be processed at worldwide airports. (More info about this application process is found under the new passport application section).
