Legalization of Documents and Signature

Legalization of Commercial Documents

Requirements:

Step1: Commercial document must be notarized by the Notary Public

Note: the following statement must be included on the same page as the signature of the applicant and the two witnesses: “Before me personally appeared Mr./Ms./Mrs……and signed the above document, this day …/…/…The signature and seal of the Notary Public, and the expiration date of commission must also be present.)

Step 2: Authenticated by the Secretary of State

Step 3: A letter from the company stating that the person who signed is authorized to sign on the company’s behalf.

A money order/cashier check in the amount of:

  • $225 per document, payable to the Embassy of Lebanon for the following:
    • Certificate of incorporation of a foreign commercial company, its bylaws, or a certificate of its registration in a commercial register in any country, or any of the documents required under Lebanese law for the opening of a representative office of the company, as well as amendments to the company’s bylaws or to any of their provisions.
    • A proportional fee of 4 per thousand (4‰) shall also be collected on monetary amounts mentioned in the document, in addition to the above fixed fee (Ministry Circular No. 14/11 dated 12/9/2021). The maximum limit for the proportional fee: $3,125
  • $90 per document payable to the Embassy of Lebanon for a “statement of work” executed abroad, balance sheets, or any commercial transactions, including:
    • Commercial advertisements
    • Minutes of general assemblies and boards of directors
    • Product specifications
    • Health certificates for agricultural pesticides
    • Lists of product prices
    • Halal slaughter certificates
    • Price certificates
    • Pharmaceutical product certificates
    • Laboratory analysis certificates
    • Experience certificates
    • Certificates of components/ingredients

Life Certificate

Requirements:

Step 1: Notarized letter from the applicant

Step 2: Authenticated by the Secretary of State

Step 3: Authenticated by Department of State in Washington, DC

A money order/cashier check in the amount of $40 per certificate payable to the Embassy of Lebanon

One Copy of Lebanese I.D.

One copy of the authenticated document

School, College, and University Certificate

Requirements:

Note: The educational institution must be accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education. A full list of recognized institutional accrediting agencies can be found here.

Step 1: Notarized by the notary public of the school/college/university for the purpose of validating the signature of the registrar/principal

Step 2: Authenticated by the Secretary of State (where the institution is located) or by the Department of State in Washington, DC

A money order or cashier’s check in the amount of $60 per certificate, payable to the Embassy of Lebanon. (Payment is only required for university documents issued in prior academic years, not in the current academic year)

Note: Effective March 1, 2026, the legalization of school documents is exempt from consular fees. University documents issued for the current academic year are also exempt, provided that proof of current enrollment is submitted.

One Copy of Lebanese/US I.D.

Requirements:
